Explosions' reported across Ukraine as Russia orders 'special operation'... A series of explosions have been reported across Ukraine, with eyewitnesses saying blasts have occurred near a number of major cities as Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order authorizing a "special military operation" in the Donbass region. Speaking from a rooftop in central Kiev on Thursday morning, CNN reporter Matthew Chance said he heard โfour or five explosionsโ erupt in the city, though stated โI canโt explain what they are.โ The report came moments after Putin announced the military operation on behalf of the newly recognized breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, where a military conflict has raged between separatist forces and the Ukrainian government for years.

Antonov, in a social media post, said the U.S. sanctions โcannot solve a thing.โ โIt is hard to imagine that there is a person in Washington who expects Russia to revise its foreign policy under a threat of restrictions,โ he wrote. โI donโt remember a single day when our country lived without any restrictions from the Western world. We have learned to work in such conditions. And not only to survive, but also to develop our state.โ In comments to state-run Russian media, Antonov claimed the sanctions would โstrongly hit the global financial and energy markets,โ and that โordinary citizens will feel the consequences.โ
